Locaria Events Portal

The Locaria Events Portal is a technology suite developed by the Locaria Open Community Interest Company

Locariaintegrates with a wide range of data sources such as OpenActive and Open Referral UK in order to gather and publish events and locations linked to better living.

Locaria Portal

The Locaria portal allows you to:-

  • Search for events at a locality or nationally
  • Search using unstructured text or keywords
  • Filter on specific requirements including, cost, skill level, exertion level, date, gender
  • Suggest alternative events based on search criteria
  • Add missing events
  • Scan posters to create events
  • Import events from existing URLS
  • Moderate and edit events prior to publishing
  • Bookmark events and share them via email, download, print or API
  • View events in multiple languages

Locaria is designed to support "discovery" our engine loads event data into a simplified schema optimised for highly performant search and retrieval. Events are categorised according to skill, exertion and cost categories. A rules engine allows you to tag events according to your own specific needs thus facilitating custom categorisation or partitioning.

Locaria Data Engine

The Locaria data engine manages the process of data discovery, loading and search optimisation. A simple set of commands allow you to find data feeds and then load the data from them filtered to your own needs, for example constrained to a specific location or from a certain date. Locaria then takes care of building you an optimised search index with queries over millions of records taking milliseconds to complete.

Locaria publishes data via the portal and also a highly flexible API engine supporting:-

  • Openactive RPDE feeds
  • Localisation to polygon or area (eg: Yorkshire or a specific boundary)
  • Geospatial queries, nearest to point, within area, sorted from location
  • Complex filters across multiple data fields
  • Translation on the fly

Locaria also utilises machine learning to scrape and categorise event data from posters, images and existing event URLS. The system will attempt to classify unstructured data into the internal schema, allow users to correct their mistakes and learn from the corrections to improve future classifications.
